Month-end in many Lagos offices still follows the same ritual. Someone exports bank statements, someone else hunts for the invoice behind each transfer, and a spreadsheet tries to work out the VAT. By the time the numbers agree, the next month has started.
Zoho Books Nigeria users now have a localised option built for that job. In September 2026 Zoho launched a Nigeria edition of the accounting app, with VAT, withholding tax and e-invoicing built in. This guide covers what it does, how it handles tax, how it connects to banks and to Zoho CRM, and what it costs in naira.
Key takeaways
- Zoho Books Nigeria edition applies VAT, handles withholding tax and produces VAT schedules in TaxProMax format.
- It can push e-invoices to the Nigeria Revenue Service through Remita, an approved access point provider.
- Paid plans start at ₦3,600 a month billed annually. E-invoicing and bank feeds start on the Standard plan.
- Medium taxpayers with ₦1 billion to ₦5 billion turnover went live on e-invoicing in July 2026. Enforcement is due in early 2027.
- Linked to Zoho CRM, Books turns a closed deal into an invoice without retyping.
What does Zoho Books do for a Nigerian business?
At its core, Zoho Books Nigeria is cloud accounting: invoices, quotes, expenses, bank reconciliation and financial reports. Zoho’s Nigeria pricing page lists more than 50 reports even on the free plan.
The Nigeria edition adds local tax logic. Zoho announced it on 17 September 2026, BrandSpur reported. It applies VAT by item type and customer classification, handles reverse charge, and manages withholding tax for residents and non-residents.
Prashant Ganti, a Zoho vice-president for finance products, said Nigerian businesses now have finance apps “purpose-built for the Nigerian regulatory environment,” Techeconomy reported. Books was already one of Zoho’s most used products in the country, according to TechCabal.
How does Zoho Books Nigeria handle VAT?
Start with the law. Nigeria’s VAT rate stays at 7.5% under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, which took effect on 1 January 2026, Forvis Mazars notes. A proposed rise towards 15% was dropped.
The Act also changed who charges VAT. Small businesses with turnover of ₦100 million or less and fixed assets under ₦250 million are exempt, though professional service firms are excluded. Input VAT on services and fixed assets is now recoverable when they support taxable supplies.
Zoho Books Nigeria maps those rules onto transactions. Each item and customer carries a tax treatment, and the software applies the right rate on the invoice. The Standard plan adds VAT returns and a sales schedule in the format the TaxProMax portal expects.
Software does not replace judgement here. Exempt and zero-rated items need correct set-up, and that set-up is a job for your accountant.
How does it handle withholding tax?
Withholding tax trips up many growing firms, because the rate depends on what you buy and from whom. Under the 2024 withholding regulations, EY’s summary lists 5% for consultancy and professional fees paid to residents and 10% for non-residents. Supplies of goods carry 2%.
There is relief for small firms. Companies with turnover of ₦25 million or less need not deduct WHT where the supplier has a valid TIN and the monthly transaction is ₦2 million or less.
Zoho Books Nigeria tracks WHT across transaction types for residents and non-residents. So finance can record the WHT a client deducts inside the books instead of chasing it in a spreadsheet. Check current rates with your adviser, because the 2025 tax reforms are still settling in.

Is Zoho Books ready for NRS e-invoicing?
Yes, through an approved provider. E-invoicing is the strongest reason to look at Zoho Books Nigeria this year.
Zoho’s e-invoicing help page says Books connects to the NRS portal through Remita, “an approved access point provider for the NRS Merchant Buyer Solution.”
Set-up has three steps:
- Enable taxes and add your TIN in Books.
- Register on the NRS portal and choose Remita as your access point.
- Copy your Business ID and Service ID into Books.
After that, you push invoices, credit notes and debit notes with one button. Validated transactions lock, so corrections need a credit or debit note. That discipline will feel strict to teams used to editing invoices after sending them.
Timing depends on your size. Fonoa’s summary of the NRS rollout gives these dates:
| Taxpayer group | Annual turnover | Go-live | Enforcement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Large | Above ₦5 billion | Already live | Already in force |
| Medium | ₦1 billion to ₦5 billion | 1 July 2026 | January to March 2027 |
| Emerging | Below ₦1 billion | 1 July 2027 | January to March 2028 |
The penalties are real. Forvis Mazars lists ₦200,000 plus 100% of the tax due, with interest, for processing taxable supplies outside the system. Denying the NRS access to deploy its technology costs ₦1 million on the first day and ₦10,000 a day after.
Can Zoho Books connect to Nigerian bank accounts?
Partly. Test Zoho Books Nigeria with your own bank before you commit.
Bank feeds start on the Standard plan. Zoho’s support guide says to search for your bank in the feed provider list. If it does not appear, you import statements manually.
We could not confirm from Zoho’s public pages which Nigerian banks support automatic feeds today. Check during your free trial before you plan a month-end process around them.
Payments are easier.
Paystack’s Zoho Books extension lets customers pay invoices online through Paystack in Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa. The invoice is then automatically reconciled and marked as paid. For many SMEs, that removes most of the matching work on incoming money.
Does Zoho Books handle naira and foreign currency?
Yes. The base currency is naira, and multi-currency transactions start on the Professional plan. Exporters, agencies billing UK clients and firms paying for imported stock all need it.
Multi-currency matters more in Nigeria than in most markets. The naira closed at ₦1,332.99 to the dollar on 12 October 2026, Nairametrics reported. It has been far less stable in recent years, so exchange gains and losses belong in the books, not in a side spreadsheet.
How does Zoho Books link to Zoho CRM?
This is where Zoho Books Nigeria users save the most time. Zoho’s integration guide explains the flow. CRM Accounts become business customers in Books, CRM Contacts become individual customers, and CRM Products sync with Books Items.
Quotes, sales orders and invoices sync when sales staff create them in CRM’s Zoho Finance module. Transactions sync instantly, while new contacts and products sync every two hours after the first sync. If CRM uses multi-currency, its base currency must match Books.
The result is a single chain.
A salesperson closes a deal, raises the invoice from CRM, and finance sees it immediately with the right VAT. The customer pays through Paystack, and the CRM record shows the deal as paid. Our piece on revenue waiting inside Nigerian CRMs explains why that visibility changes sales follow-up.

What does Zoho Books cost in Nigeria?
Zoho prices the Nigeria edition in naira. These are the list prices on Zoho’s Nigeria pricing page, per organisation per month, as of October 2026, excluding local taxes:
| Plan | Billed annually | Billed monthly | Users | Key additions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | ₦0 | ₦0 | 1 + accountant | Invoicing, bank reconciliation, 1,000 invoices a year |
| Standard | ₦3,600 | ₦4,320 | 3 | E-invoicing, bank feeds, VAT returns |
| Professional | ₦7,600 | ₦9,120 | 5 | Multi-currency, sales orders, inventory |
| Premium | ₦11,600 | ₦13,920 | 10 | Budgets, fixed assets, cash flow forecasts |
| Elite | ₦51,600 | ₦61,920 | 10 | Warehouses, batch tracking, Shopify |
| Ultimate | ₦99,600 | ₦119,520 | 15 | Advanced analytics and KPIs |
The free plan stays free while annual revenue stays under $50,000, about ₦66.6 million at the October rate. It lacks e-invoicing and bank feeds, so most VAT-registered firms will start on Standard. Extra users cost ₦800 to ₦960 each a month.
Zoho Books Nigeria pricing compares well with dollar-billed accounting tools, because the bill does not rise when the naira falls. Implementation, data migration and accountant time are separate costs.
Who should switch to Zoho Books Nigeria now?
Medium taxpayers should move first, because their e-invoicing enforcement window opens in early 2027. Firms already using Zoho CRM gain the most from the integration. Businesses billing in dollars or pounds need Professional or above.
Very small firms under the ₦100 million VAT exemption can wait or start on the free plan. They still benefit from clean invoicing and reconciliation habits before e-invoicing reaches them in 2027.
At Riophany, a licensed Zoho partner, we connect Books to CRM, Paystack and WhatsApp so finance and sales share one record. Our CRM and finance integration services cover set-up, migration and tax configuration with your accountant.
E-invoicing will change month-end more than any feature list. When every invoice is cleared by the NRS before the customer sees it, the books stop being a record of the past and become the business’s live ledger.
